September 2, 2002 Rainbow Dreams Stables announced the retirement of top Paint colt, MSW/MCH MINE IS THE ROCKET, today. Owner/trainer Beth Gustas sadly reported: "Rocky has had a rough year... A combination of bad entry decisions and bad luck kept him off the board in his spring starts and left our trainers scratching their heads about where to go with him next. We were delighted with his much improved performance in the Bubbling Highball Stakes at October Downs in May where he placed 2nd by a nose to MSW/MCH rival FIVE CARD STUD. His August start in the Ink Blot Stakes at Badger State proved a disaster... According to his jockey, he simply quit near the midpoint of the race and that something definitely felt wrong. He was noticeably off on his return to the barn where we did extensive x-rays to determine the problem. We were devastated by the results: several painful, grating bone chips in his left fore knee. Realizing that he has a long recover ahead of him, we decided to retire him now rather than put him through the rigors of rehabilitation and the uncertainty of a return to the racetrack. We shipped him back to the farm and our vet performed surgery to remove the chips. He's recovering well with no complications and is enjoying his retirement at the farm." This talented chestnut overo colt was sired by MSW/CH ROCKET CASH and out of SW/CH MY PENNY'S GOLD. He won six stakes in fifteen stakes starts (placing in five others) including the ITR Col-Ida Futurity 330y, the Bubbling Highball Stakes 330y, the Starway Sprint 350y, the Space City Spotted Futurity 350y, the Space City Spotted Maturity 440y and the Emperor Waltz Stakes 440y. He was also named the 2000 Express Region C Co-Champion 2yo Colt and was a 2x Track Champion at October Downs in his two and three year old seasons. We are currently accepting bookings for his first season at stud in 2003 (first crop 2004) - more information is available at: http://www.starrfyre.com/rds/race/stallions/rocket.htm We'd like to thank his breeder at Norwood Farms (CA) & all track stewards who provided racing opportunities to this talented colt and gave us the honor of racing a fine one! We are confident that his second career in the breeding shed will also prove successful! |
